The Bank of the West is the third-largest commercial bank which has its headquarters at western United States and California. headquarters are ranked as top three and two commercial banks respectively. The Bank of the West Corporation is the holding company of Bank of the West in the Western United States which is controlled and wholly owned by French universal bank BNP Paribas. From past 5 years the bank has experienced tremendous growth with Q1 2006 net income up 21% from the same quarter of 2005. Acquisitions of smaller banks, such as the recent acquisition of Commercial Federal Bank, have largely fueled this growth. It has over 680 branches situated all over the country.
Apart from the banking services Bank of The West sponsors many sporting events including the Annual Bank of the West Classic pro tennis tournament and the Bank of the West Beach Games, held in Huntington Beach, CA. The bank is known for full service to its customers and small business financing. It has achieved "preferred lender" Small Business Administration status in the Dallas region. The bank is specialized servicing the small business customers on the ability to develop custom programs and respond quickly to answer the needs of each individual customer. The bank also offers checking, savings, and money market accounts and CDs; as well as credit cards, insurance, investment, trusts, and financial planning. Lending is focused on mortgages, consumer loans, and vehicle and equipment leases.
The Bank of the West operates in three fields namely:
- Regional Banking
- Consumer Finance
- Commercial Banking.
The branch system, as well as its special business branches, private banking and small construction lending offices comes under Regional Banking. The business branches, called Commercial Banking Offices, focus on businesses with sales between 5 and 50 million. The professional segments are taken care by group's private banking offices which are originally business bankers focused on lawyers accountants and architects. Consumer Finance is defined as the revenues and income from the consumer loans (excluding mortgage loans) originated throughout the branch system, as well as the consumer loans originated indirectly. Indirect lending is defined as offering loans through other businesses' channels. These loans are primarily auto, rv, and boat loans sold through dealers, as well as auto leases
